Abstract:The tribology behaviors of Feroform composites with different directions of woven synthetic fiber cloth, and the materials saturated with water absorption were studied by using a blockonring friction test rig of MRH03 under pure water and artificial sea water lubrication, and at different load and speed. The results show that the Feroform composites with three directions of woven synthetic fiber cloth have different frictional behaviors. When the sliding direction perpendicular to the single sheet of cloth, the friction coefficient is at the highest, and the specific wear rate is the lowest. When the sliding direction is on the single sheet of cloth, the friction coefficient is at the lowest and the specific wear rate is the highest. With the increasing of the rotating speed, the friction coefficient and the specific wear rates of the materials are all decreased. With the increasing of the load, the specific wear rate is increased under pure water lubrication, but no obvious change under sea water lubrication. After saturated with water absorption, the friction coefficient and the specific wear rate of the materials are decreased under pure water lubrication and increased under sea water lubrication. The worn surfaces of Feroform composites were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).The results indicate that the friction mechanism of the composites is affected synergistically by the supporting function of the fiber on substrate material and the protection of substrate material on fiber.
