Abstract:To improve the tribological performance of the cam-roller/roller-pin unit in an internal combustion engine so as to reduce the power consumption of the valve train,a triangle texture was fabricated on the pin,and the skidding characteristics of the roller follower and the influence of the texture of the pin on the skidding of the roller were measured by a custom-made cam-roller measurement system. The results show that the roller skidding increases first and then decreases with increasing speed, and high oil temperatures and heavy loads can inhibit the roller skidding.Under conditions of fully flooded oil supply, the surface texture of the pin can effectively reduce the skidding of the roller.Under conditions of insufficient oil supply and high speeds, when using an original pin,the lubricating oil loss increases over time, leading to an increase in the slip rate of rollers. While the pin with triangle texture can effectively improve the lubrication between the pin and the roller by guiding the oil flow at the oil feeding port through triangle texture and the oil storage of the texture, thus skidding of the roller is reduced. Moreover, the skidding does not change much with running time.
