Abstract:Based on Navier-Stokes equations,a numerical analysis model of surface textured journal bearing was established and was solved by the modified semi-implicit (SIMPLEC) algorithm of the pressure coupling equations. The effects of surface texture arrangement and surface shape on friction properties of journal bearings were analyzed.Five types of compound surface texture were proposed and designed, and their effects on bearing friction properties were comparatively analyzed. The results show that at the inlet area of convergence wedge, the cross textures can significantly improve the bearing capacity of the journal bearin. At the middle area of convergence wedge, the circumferential groove and short groove textures improve bearing friction properties more significantly than axial texture, and the friction properties of journal bearing can be improved more obviously when arranging the inverted ellipse, rhombus and cross textures. At the outlet area of convergence wedge, the textures cannot improve the friction properties of journal bearings, and at the divergence wedge area, only triangular texture can improve bearing friction properties. The compound textures can improve the friction properties of journal bearing more effectively than single type of texture. When cross texture are arranged the inlet area of convergence wedge, circumferential groove, short groove and cross texture are arranged respectively in the middle area of convergence wedge, triangular texture are arranged in the divergence wedge area, the bearing performance has a significant improvement. The bearing capacity of the bearings with these three types of compound textures is increased by 15.69%,15.66% and 17.16% respectively, and their friction coefficient is reduced by 3.75%,4.17% and 2.92% respectively.
