Abstract:The low resinbased friction materials reinforced by compound mineral fiber were prepared by using onestep hot press molding technology, and the effect of compound mineral fiber content on tribological behaviors of the friction materials was studied by using Rockwell hardness tester to measure the Rockwell hardness, and constant speed friction tester to test the friction and wear performance. The microstructure of worn surface was observed by scanning electron microscope, and wear mechanism was discussed. The results show that compound mineral fiber can significantly improve the friction coefficient of the friction materials, and the friction materials with appropriate compound mineral fiber content have good thermal stability, but severe fade occurs when the composite contains too much compound mineral fiber at high test temperature.Along with the increasing of compound mineral fiber, the Rockwell hardness keeps steady first and drops later, the friction coefficients is increased first and decreased later, and the wear rates is increased steadily first but decreased sharply later. The result of SEM analysis shows that, along with the increasing of compound mineral fiber content, the wear type of the low resinbased friction materials gradually change from adhesive wear and abrasive wear into thermal decomposition wear and brittle spalling accompanying with abrasive wear.
