Abstract:A new type journal gas squeeze film bearing with flexure hinges was presented, which has the advantages of low friction and wear and high precision of motion, but low load carrying capacity. To improve the load carrying capacity of this new gas squeeze bearing, the key structural parameters, that are the notch radius of flexure hinges and the wall thickness, were redesigned by optimal method. The results of optimization show that the oscillation amplitude and squeeze number of the bearing are improved, and the aim to improve the load carrying capacity is realized when keeping a compact structure for the gas squeeze film bearing.
